Clinical Trial Diversity- Meeting the Challenges of a Changing Population

The ethnic diversity of the US market for biopharmaceutical products is changing rapidly and substantially leading to important changes in the spectrum of disease and the distribution of disease burden. When you, as a clinical trial sponsor, consider the potential for drug response diversity associated with ethnicity, and past barriers to an inclusion of a representative population in clinical trials that you have faced, future recruiting challenges can appear to be formidable. Regulatory pressure to address ethnic diversity in clinical trials is also likely to increase with the changes in the population.

What, if anything, is your company doing to prepare for the shifting population, and to find solutions for future clinical drug trials that avoid the cost and time delays that might be expected from past efforts to achieve ethnic balance in the clinical development of innovative new products?

• Will you support diversity in clinical trials?
• Will you develop an internal team to do it yourself?
• Will you work with a specialist to carry it out?
• Or will you continue the status quo? And how has that been working out for you?
